non-owner unlocks
nipper
So I am going to have to implement a way for users to unlock other people's files (I know this is a big gun, don't shoot your self).
So, since these users work in the same WA and tsadm owns the WA, my thought is to make tsadm only an editor and give select users the login so they can unlock it.
My second option is a custom menu item that runs a setuid script which can unlock.
Number 3 is to make them admins.
Obviously the choice is 1 or 2.
We are seeing people edit a DCR and then cancel, leaving the locks around. Management wants the business users to be able to unlock, not an IT function (makes sense)
I am lean towards number 2, just curious if anyone has seen other options.
I assume someone else has run into this issue.

How bout having the workarea owner a business user, maybe teamlead or whatever.
then they could be responsible.
Or even a business admin account rather than a tsadmin account.
Ill always try to avoid writing more custom scripts

I like the second option. I also unlock the corresponding DCR when a user unlocks an output file.

One thing to consider is "How do we know that it is safe to unlock a file?"
If a file is locked by User A and User A is out for the day, how do you know it is safe for User B to unlock the file?
Option A is probably your safest bet. Have the workarea owned by a generic account and give only a few (trusted) people the ability to unlock.
Good Luck,
