counting reports
kabilan_n
Hi All,
I want to know how many reports are there in my encyclopedia volume. As well as folders, sub folders and report documents. Is there any short cut for knowing this. If so please help me.
Thanks in advance.

kabil,
I talked with a colleague about this. He said that you could build a report against the iServer metadata database to figure this out.

kabil,
You could also write up something using IDAPI if you were not wanting to add another object to your volume.
You could use:
SelectFiles:: Recursive = True, FetchSize = 5000, Search = SelectFilesSearch, ResultDef = String[]
SelectFilesSearch:: Condition = FileCondition
FileCondition:: Field = Name, Match = "*"
String[]:: {"Name", "Id", "FileType", "Owner"}
The SelectFilesResponse would contain an ArrayOfFiles object, filled with a File[], which could contain the information in the result definition.
It would be fairly easy at that point to perform counts and other operations programatically to break the information down that you want in a legible format, including knowing what users own which files/ folders.

Hi Guru,
Thanks for your reply. Is there any sample report to make this done? If so please send me that.

Hi RSiegler,<br />
I am not having any idea about IDAPI. Where i can learn about this and where to write the above codes. Please explain me about this in detail.<br />

Kabil,
IDAPI is the Information Delivery API that the iServer utilizes to craft SOAP messages either manually, or programatically via a WSDL.
If you have documentation for the iServer, this is detailed much more fully in the "Using BIRT iServer Integration Technology" manual.
As there is too much to detail about it in a post, I would suggest looking into it in that fashion, or contacting Actuate Support for documentation. The short version of it is that using IDAPI, you can perform almost any function that the graphical interface of the iServer allows you to accomplish: whether that be adding users, running reports, changing passwords, uploading files, printing completed documents, or updating preferences.

Thanks Ryan. Also i found this tutorial form Actuate "<a class='bbc_url' href='

; ". But as per William we can able to create report to do the same by querying iServer metadata database. Do you have any idea about this? if so please give some pointers.<br />

Kabil,
Unfortunately, am not as skilled as a report writer. However, yes you can query the metadata database and utilize that information in a report.

The default database for your metadata database is a bundled PostgreSQL, unless you chose Oracle or a separate installation of PostgreSQL on install of the iServer. You should be able to connect to this database and query the tables. Unfortunately, I don't have a report that does this, already. However, you should be able to easily find the database information in the acserverconfig.xml file, to help you get connected.

Thanks William,<br />

I got how to do with DB. Here is the link to do the same using IDAPI " <a class='bbc_url' href='

link</a> ". But in this document they have discussed with Actuate 9 and for Actuate 11 i cant find the path as described in that document. Any pointers?..<br />
