DataSet Not Detecting New Column

Hi,

I am using BIRT in Eclipse.

I have a added a new column in on of the VIEWs that I use in my DataSet. I went to that DataSet right-click and Refresh but the column is not appearing in the DataSet, although I can see it using MySQL.

Any ideas/reasons as to why this is not appearing and how to go around it?

The closest I could find on the web is this: http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php/mv/msg/286394/792357/ and even this solution didn't work. I tried tweaking the XML but my understanding is pretty limited. Any help would be much appreciated.

How are you framing the select clause in the dataSet? Whatever mentioned in the select clause are the ones that comes up as columns in the data set.

Did you get any error while mentioning the column name specifically? If you got any error like, invalid column name or so then there could be some connection issues. Otherwise you can try creating a new test dataSet which includes this column and see if it comes up there. 
 
If it does, you can consider re-creating your existing dataSet.

I have had a similar problem. One of my datasets refused to show one of the calculated columns I created, regardless what I did it would not show up. The column worked in the dataset preview, but it wouldn't show up in the designer in Eclipse.

Since the dataset is rather complex I would rather not recreate it so I "fixed it" by adding the column manually to the <structure name="cachedMetaData"> tag of the .rptdesign file. This worked. It's now visible in Eclipse and I can use it in the data cube I needed. The only problem is, if I hit "Refresh" on the dataset ALL columns disappear from the dataset and the "cachedMetaData" tag is completely cleared. It's not an ideal solution but I had to move on, I was stuck on the same problem for 3 days.
