Charts not displayed in report
drishti
hello,
I have designed a report in BIRT 2.6.2
when i run this report on trial iserver on a DB with 10,000 records, reports run without any error.
But when the report is run with a DB of about 3 lakh records, charts are not displayed on the report.
Also it takes 6-7 minutes to run the report.
Please help.
Attaching the design report file.

From a quick review of the rptdesign, I see a few things:

1. Don't do a select * in your data set. Only return the columns you will actually use in your report.
2. Evaluate performance difference of separate specific queries versus one multi-purpose query. For example, for the pie chart, I would use a query that summed total calls grouped by queue_name and that would be the only two columns returned from the query. The data engine in BIRT is extremely fast, but databases are still the optimal choice for this when possible.
3. Only bind data set columns to report items that will actually be used by the report item. The pie chart uses two column bindings, but has every column from the data set bound to it.
4. You should really take a dimensional approach to designing your cube. To do this, you will have a query that produces your fact table, and queries for your dimensions. Then use linked groups to define the relationship between the dimensions and the fact.

You should review the following webinar about designing high performance BIRT Reports:
Hello murphy,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I changed the queries in the design file and now my reports is running properly.
Looking forward to test with a much more amount of data, hopefully it will work with bigger data also.
I am having one more problem, when i create a rptdesign file with a data source connection and upload it on iserver, i can't find any option to change the data source at runtime.
Also, while running the reports, there is only rotdocument option in the output formats. I want to save my report output in pdf format, but can't find the option.
please suggest.

Hello murphy,
The rptdesign file provided by me was for summary report.
I also have to design detail reports that may have 150-200 columns to be displayed in the table.
Is there any limitation on the number of columns that can be selected from the query?
If yes, then whats the alternative to provide reports with this much amount of columns?
please suggest.
