Hi All,
Is there a way to run a script (that is usually executed in workflow) on a bunch of files. For example, on Save and Close, we run a one-task workflow that uses an external task to set some metadata on the DCR. Is there a way to run this on all files in a WORKAREA. I guess we could set up this script to also run in on a submit event.

Also, is there a limit to the amount of files that can be submitted at one time. We seem to only be getting around 7-8 at a time.

I haven't seen a limit on the number of files that can be submitted. However, with hundreds of file, the workflow instantiation through the GUI can take a very long time.

Running a command on a bunch of files should not be that much of a problem. Submitting them all in the workflow may be an option, though performance can be extremely slow.

Assuming that your script uses the workflow perl modules, you may have something like:
$area = $task->GetArea();
@files = $task->GetFiles()

You can easily just replace this line with something like:
$iwmnt = TeamSite::Config::iwgetmount();
$area = "$iwmnt/default/main/branch/WORKAREA/area"
opendir (PTS, "$area")
@files = grep { /^\./ } readdir(PTS);
closedir (PTS);

and then continue on with the code...

What exactly is it that you want to do? If you are just setting metadata on a file via a workflow, there is also an attribute that can be set in a task (something like eastartop) that can set it automatically for you when the workflow starts.
