Strange Behavior when using stored procedures in report designer
eliac
Hello All,
There is a strange behavior, in the report designer when making calls to stored procedure.
Whenever you add a dataset with stored procedure, it gets executed on every single click on any item in the report and the report freezes until the execution is finalized.
Is there by any chance a way to stop the automatic execution of the procedure?
Thank you

Can you explain this a little more in detail? What are the links that you're clicking on? Also, what's your BIRT version?
eliac
Hello Michael,
Thank you for the quick reply.
we are using BIRT Indigo designer with BIRT 3.7.2.
The behavior is like below:
We create a data set and we link it to a stored procedure, the procedure gets executed and this is the normal behavior.
Once the execution is finalized, the data set is shown under the report resources tab but whenever you try to expand the data set, the stored procedure gets executed again, and the eclipse freezes until the execution is finalized.
Further more, if you want to alter the design, for example dropping a column from the data set into the report, the stored procedure gets executed again and eclipse freezes again.
This happens whenever you do any manipulation on the report (for example, clicking on a label to change its font) the procedure is once again executed. ( I was monitoring the database via the sessions tab in pl/sql, and it was clear that the execution is launched whenever a report developer does any manipulation on the report design and our procedures are heavy and sometimes their execution times exceeds half an hour).
I would appreciate, if you could help me clarifying and bypass this strange behavior.
Thanks in advance

This doesn't happen with a standard jdbc dataSet? Sounds kinda buggy, to me, but you might check in Window -> Preferences to see if there is a setting that will keep the query from running.

Hello,
I checked all the preferences. but none has the option to prevent the execution.
I will review everything again.
This does not happen with Regular JDBC.
Thank you

Please log a bug for this in the eclipse.org/birt bugzilla. Thanks! If you post the bug info in here, for future reference, that'd be great!
