Eclipse Startup Time Very Slow

Hi All,

Does anyone know if it's normal for Eclipse to take 5 minutes to start? I currently use three different versions, 2.5 and 3.7.2 for BIRT and 3.3 for Java programming. They all take 5 minutes to open on a ThinkPad T510. If this is not normal, has anyone else encountered this and perhaps know a solution?

I've got like 15 versions of BIRT and I can't think of one of them that takes that long to start. Usually less than a minute, I'd say.

I had this happen to me a few times. Once it was because I had a hard drive that was going bad. This also happened to me when I was running a customer kernel config on Ubuntu, I can't remember what version it was though. I know once you start playing with some of those kernel settings it can make for some funny results.

What OS are you running and what are the hardware specs? Does it always take a while to start? I've seen major performance impacts by using different window managers.
