I did not get you what you said. We increased the tomcat Perm Gen space to 4 GB and still we are getting below mentioned error.

Daily 4 to 5 times we are getting this error in Birt-viewer( while users are viewing the reports) and every time we are restarting the tomcat server. To come over this error what we need to do?.Any one help me to resolve this issue in tomcat6 server. We appreciate your help.

That's a very high value. What is your BIRT version? If using 2.6, I believe there was a memory leak discovered in 2.6 that was fixed in 3.7 that could be causing the issue.

Thank you so much Williams, now Its working fine. Let me know why memory leaks problem occured in 2.7?
For creation of Reports also Memory Leaks will be occured??
Here is the bug report about BIRT 2.6's memory leak, that was fixed by the 3.7 release.

Hi Williams,

As you suggested, we deployed 3.7.2 version in Production and we tried to run the report with tomcat Apache (6.0.2 version) server, we are getting the following error.

For example the BIRT VIEWER URL:

http://****.****.xx.143:90/BV/run?__report=STOREWISE_STOCK.rptdesign&__format=PDF&STOREID=1;

If I run the above link, in browser we are getting Exception error.
The screen shot is attached.
What did you mean by "now it's working fine", earlier? Were you talking about 2.6? What is your PermGen space setting, now?
Hi Williams,
Thanks for quick response. We are talking about only 3.7.2 version. After deploying BIRT 3.7.2 in Production, It worked fine only for two days. From third day onwards the same problem(PermGen Space) which we have faced in earlier versions, we are facing. For this problem, each and everyday we are restarting(Daily once) the Tomcat Server(6.0.2).
Hi Williams,
Please find the PermGen Space Settings File.
mwilliams
You might try upping the permGen space a little more. If that doesn't work, we'll have to look at it closer to see if there's maybe still a memory leak. Is BIRT the only app you have deployed to this application server?
Hi Williams,
Thanks for your reply. Yes, In Application Server we deployed only BIRT app. As you suggested we will increase little more PermGen space.
Hi Williams,
We increased permGen space 512 MB. Still we are facing same problem(permGen Space Problem).

Sorry for the delay. I've been working on our newsletter.
I'm on my phone, so I can't access your file, above, but didn't it say your permgen was 1024?
arunkumarb
Hi Williams,
Please find the below permGen Space settings:
JAVA_OPTS -XX:PermSize=512m -XX:MaxPermSize=1024m -Xms1024m -Xmx2048m.
Regards,
Arun

If you restart Tomcat, does it run, at all? Or after the permGen error shows up, does it just stop working at all? What types of dataSets are you using? Do you use scripted dataSets?
arunkumarb

Hi Williams,
We are not using scripted datasets. We are using only JDBC datasources only. Whenever permGen space problem occured in browser then we are restarting the tomcat manually. It works for few hours after that we are getting same problem. i.e. whenever we are getting permGen space problem we are restarting the tomcat.

Regards,
Arun
mwilliams
Well, this appears to still be a bug. You might try setting both permspace values to 1024 and both heap to 2048, to see if that will buy you more time. Also, can you post an updated error stack, in here and also log a new bug @ eclipse.org/birt. I think I read somewhere that tomcat 7 would do more to clean up these types of issues. You might give that a try.
