Cascading parameters with Spring?

Hello. I have a series of pre-existing reports that need to have cascading parameters instead of the currently static drop down lists. I would like to be able to use my own "ParameterHandler" Java class. Is there a way that I can invoke this class and specify which parameters cascade to the next? I did find in this link (http://www.vogella.com/articles/EclipseBIRT/article.html) that scripting does allow one to import and use Java classes in the onPrepare statement and others. Can I do something similar?
Note: Yes, I am trying to avoid BIRT using SQL directly for a reason.
Note: I would also like to make the initial parameter based on the report. passing a string or number would suffice.

You can create your own parameter interface calling the data however you want. After that you would build the required URL to call the report. You don't <em class='bbc'>need</em> BIRT to choose the parameter values.
