Dynamic Data source binding
Sergi0
Hi,
I am trying to use BIRT (V4.2.1) to generate Oracle database reports based on SQL "AWR like" queries.
The requirement is to be able to select the target Oracle instance with some details like username/password, host, port, ...
I have tried to play with the Data Source Property Binding but it fails : Test Connection fails with "There is an error in get connection" even if I use constant strings for User Name or Password in the Property Binding fields.
What is wrong? What would be the best and easiest way to select the target instance at run time?
Regards,
Serge

Is the db your trying to access local or on a server? It could be the port your trying to come in on when connecting to the database.

The requirement is to access remote databases.
Which works fine as long as all the required fields (Database URL, User Name, Password) are set in the BIRT JDBC Data Source first screen.
If User Name or Password are set in the Property Binding fields, Test Connection fails with "Invalid arguments". And the Database URL field cannot be left empty... Seems it is not the right way to dynamically choose a Data Source.
How can we dynamically set the Database URL, User Name and Password for our report Data Source ?

Serge

If you are doing this via a server, you can use JNDI to dynamically set these.
When using Property Binding, you still need to set the properties in the regular editor. Property binding is meant to be an override. You can also dynamically set these properties through the Data Sources before events in the script tab.
