getValue() not available for a Cell?

Hello all. I'm using BIRT 3.7.2. I have a short script which ran fine when under BIRT 2.6, but now fails. The script does some basic trimming of a URL as follows:

if (urlLength > maxLength){
this.setDisplayValue(url.substring(0, 13) + "..." + url.substring(urlLength-14, urlLength))

}

var myaction = this.createAction();
myaction.setHyperlink(url,"_blank");
this.action = myaction;</pre>
 
The error message generated is TypeError: Cannot find function getValue in object org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.script.internal.instance.CellInstance 
 
The page at <a class='bbc_url' href='http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/deploy/reportScripting.php'>http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/deploy/reportScripting.php</a> indicates that getValue() is available, but that seems not to be the case in 3.7.2? How can I retrieve the cell value so the script can do its thing?

Where are you placing the script? I got the same error in the onPrepare() and had to move it to onCreate() and everything seems to work fine for me now.

User error on my part - I wasn't selecting the correct cell to apply the script to. this.getValue() works fine. I am applying the script to the onRender event. I also upgraded to 4.7.2 and all's good. Thanks for the reply @kclark!;
