Birt report datasets sequential or parallel execution?
abhiallen
Hello,
I am currently working on the report optimization for some of our business reports and it seem they have multiple datasets with complex sql taking 3-4 secs exec time. I tried combining 3 queries into 1 sql which is taking 6 secs to execute. is this a good optimization technique of combining datasets or any other better technique i am unaware of?
Also BIRT report datasets execute sequentially or in parallel?
If datasets are executed sequentially then 3 datasets with 4sec exec time SQL would take total 12 secs to execute all 3 datasets, but if datasets execute in parallel then these 3 datasets shouldn't take more than 4-5 secs for all.
thanks
Abhishek

3-4 seconds for execution time seems pretty good to me, and if you can put them together for a 6 second execution seems great. It really depends on how much data is in the DB though.

kclark - thanks for the reply. All the dataset execution depends on the daterange selected by user as a params.
The 3-4 query exec time is for 1 month data, with combines query taking 6secs
For 3 months data - individual queries take 6-7 sec and combines query 14 secs.
For 6 months data - individual queries take 14 secs and combined query 29 secs.
This data table is incremental and currently have 12.5 million records which keep growing daily with tracking data.
