Not able to access reportContext object from Chart scripting

Hi, 
 
I added the following scripting to a data set for onFetch event: 
reportContext.setPersistentGlobalVariable("totalEntitlement", row["Total Entitlement"]); 
And I am trying to get this variable in a pie chart scripting. But reportContext object is not available here . from the palette also I checked, it is not available <a class='bbc_url' href='http://www.birt-exchange.org/org/forum/public/style_emoticons/'>http://www.birt-exchange.org/org/forum/public/style_emoticons/</a><#EMO_DIR#>/confused.gif 
 
But the same thing is available from a text element. Any reason? Am I missing something? Please help... 
 
I am doing this as I need to display a dataset value on the pie chart title. 
 
Please suggest if any alternate solution is available to do this .

It sounds like you are using the UI to build your chart, correct? You could try a couple things. You could either script the chart or you could make reportContext.setPersistentGlobalVariable("totalEntitlement", row["Total Entitlement"]); a computed column.

Hi kclark, Thanks for your quick response. Yes, i am using the UI to build the chart. As i am very new to BIRT reporting, i request you to explain little more detailed. 
 
'Total Entitlement' is a computed column of my data set and this data set i used to create the pie chart. Now my requirement is i need to display this computed column value in the title of the pie chart.This computed column is actually the total of the values of all the slices. 
 
To achieve this i tried to set the total value to a global variable in the reportContext object on the 'onFetch' event of the data set. and when i tried to access this global variable from the scripting of the Chart reportContext object is not available. 
 
please suggest how else i can achieve this.
