Hyperlink to display a static File
AlanC
I'm trying to display the contents of a static file (stored on the C-Drive of the BIRT server). The enclosed report design works fine in the development environment but the hyperlink does nothing when I upload it to our server.
Our design platform is Version: 3.4.1, Build id: M20080911-1700
Our designer is Version 10.
I'm using Internet Explorer Version 7
We are using Actuate's IServer Express.
Any help would be gratefully accepted.
The attached report uses the attached text file, when stored in the C:/Temp folder.

You can try to upload that static file to the iServer, open that file from the iServer to get the URL, then paste the URL on to hyperlink in the design file and deploy the report.

Thanks for that suggestion shrewd.
It did enable me to display the file. However, it relied on me logging into the iServer in the new window in order to display the file.
I now need a means by which the "logging in" step is either automatic or omitted.
I'll keep looking
Thanks again

Success!
By adding login details to the end of the URL, the file was displayed directly.
Thanks again

Note: When using the File URI (file://host/path), depending on what browser you are using, most browsers, by default, will block hyperlinks to local files and directories from remote files. This is for your security to prevent malicious activity on your computer.

The file hyperlink will work in the Designer because your report with the hyperlink is served locally, and the target file is local. Once you place the .rptdesign/.rptdocument (with the links) on the server, it?s now remote.

You shouldn't need to add the login details to the end of the URL (for security reasons) if you are already authenticated in an Information Console session (i.e. you have logged into the iServer and are viewing a report with the link).

For example, the hyperlink can be:

/iportal/servlet/DownloadFile?name=/Your_iServer_Folder/Filename.ext
