How do you make dashboard remember state when drop-down changes param values in Report Gadget
fleebytes
Context: We have BIRT Designer reports that have requirements to have the parameter selection done via drop-downs in the actual report (not as a separate Parameter Gadget). We can make the viewer redraw the report when the drop-down values are changed, however the state of the parameters do not persist when the dashboard is refreshed (eg., user logs out, then logs back in, or even just refreshes the browser). This is even true if we use the "show visible report parameters in header" option on the Parameter Display Settings tab for the Report Gadget (eg., changed parameter values there will not be remembered when the dashboard is refreshed).
Question: Is there a way from within a viewer/report to tell the dashboard to remember the last chosen parameter settings (eg., perhaps update the user-specific gadget default parameters when the drop-down is selected)? A related question, is there a way from within a report viewer to trigger the onChange event of it's owning Gadget the same way a linked Parameter Gadget would notify all linked gadgets? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Are you using BIRT 360 or are you creating your own dashboard?

My question is in regards to using BIRT 360 as the dashboard. However, I am open to exploring hand-rolling a dashboard if you have insight between the pro/cons of each approach since we only need a limited number of dashboard features. Thanks!

I've implemented a solution that makes this work by (1) manipulating client-side javascript objects that represent the gadget state, and (2) emulating soap call back to the server to update server-side objects. I've only made this work for individual report parameters (not cascading, etc) though I suspect we could make it work for all parameter types. The net result is the gadget filter drop-downs in my report design now stay in sync with the parameter values in the "Edit Parameters" tab in the Gadget Edit menu pop-up. Additionally, Dashboard SAVE now saves changes made through the filters embedded in the report. Thanks!
