Problem with Tribix excel exporting with JSF4Actuate
madhavil
Hi Every one,
We are using JSF4Actuate to export reports to excel. And also Tribix excel emitters 2.5.1. The reason to Tribix emitters is to export images also. But now exporting images works fine but the data in a cross tab is exported into very narrow/small cells of excel. Please help me to make the excel cells to auto fit. Also for some reason the grouping cells in the cross tab are not added as merged cells in the generated excel. But this was working fine with Birt default excel emitters.
Also please suggest on how to export to excel 2007 version.
Thanks & Regards,
Madhavi.

It depends on the emitter you use, but I think you'll have to set the width of the crosstab from script depending on how many characters the longest string is in the crosstab.

The Tribix Excel emitters favour layout over spreadsheetiness, with the result that the output often looks identical to that from the PDF emitter and is utterly unstable as a spreadsheet.
By carefully configuring you report to remove padding and other little gaps you can make things better, but I never got adequate results for crosstabs.
So I wrote the Spudsoft Excel emitters, which go the other way (what matters is the spreadsheet, fidelity to the deign is secondary).
If you don't like my output try the ones that call themselves the "Native Excel Emitters", they are modified versions of the built in emitters, but they support images and proper Excel file types.
If neither of them float your boat give Arctorus a go - I haven't used them for a while, but they sound good, but cost money.
Thanks Jim for the reply!

I Definitely want to try spud soft emitters.
I went to the site: and found too many jars http://www.birt-exchange.org/org/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused.gif

Can you please help to identify which file to download for Birt 2.5 version.
Also giving the steps on how to install these emitters would help me

Regards,
Madhavi.

There are LOTs of JARs there, but they are all just different versions of the same thing.
So, right now, you want uk.co.spudsoft.birt.emitters.excel_0.8.0.201302101944.jar

What you do with it after that depends on how you are running BIRT - if you are using BIRT in eclipse just place the jar in your plugins directory and the engine will find it.
Unfortunately there are a few more steps needed to tell the viewer to let you make use of it.
This has one approach: <a class='bbc_url' href='

/>
For more details have a look here: https://bitbucket.org/yaytay/spudsoft-birt-excel-emitters/wiki/Home

Note that I don't specifically support 2.5.2, but I'm not aware of any issues.
My emitters do not work with versions before 2.5.2.
I strongly recommend upgrading BIRT.
