BIRT report taking huge time
abhijitKol
Dear All,
I have a BIRT report which contains 3000 rows and 50 columns. It takes around 15 mins to generate the report. The data is coming through a query from mysql DB.
Could you please tell me why the report is taking huge time? Regularly I am getting escalation from client.
How to improve the performance of the BIRT report?
Thanks
Abhijit

The performance depends on a lot of different factors.
Despite of network, CPU e.g you should:
Start with your database
1) How long does the query take if you run it with some other sql client? If this is already taking too long you have to do performance tuning on the database side.
If the database is not a problem at all start looking at the BIRT report:
2) Which features are you using in the report? E.g. subreports (they are always very bad in terms of performance), charts, datacubes,...
3) Are you using Run&Render or Run and then render to generate the report? Run and then render can often be a problem if you have a lot of different columns and rows because it writes a huges xml file to the servers disc. In addition if you are using run and then render: Is the server running some anti virus? This can also be a problem because the AV just wants to scan that XML file for viruses.
Without answering these questions it is just like searching a needle inside of a very large haystack.
