DCR Search
parsan99
Hi
We need to implement a simple search mechanism for the users to locate DCR's in Teamsite based on the values in certain fields. The DCR's follow the IWOV format. Teamsite DCR Search did not help us since we dont have OpenDeploy yet. Has anyone used any XML Search engines with Teamsite?. Any input on this will be very helpful.
Thanks

DCR search is not dependent upon OpenDeploy but DataDeploy. Based on my personal experience and some contributors to the "Survey Sez..." thread, DataDeploy (plus implementation of DAS) is not that well regarded. Since DCR search requires a database even if you use the method promoted by Interwoven, I would suggest using Perl DBI in a workflow externaltask to update the DB of your choice with things you want to search for and a CGI custom menu item to query/retrieve info.

Instead of using a backend db you could have your custom CGI script reference the TeamSite:
CRnode module.
http://support.interwoven.com/library/devel/tst/pt/5_01/TeamSite__DCRnode.asp
Basically you would do the following:
1) write a custom CGI menu to capture keywords and location that you want to search
2) have that script pass to a results CGI that would:
-open and load each DCR into a variable $x
- parse $x using the DCRnode module
- use a regex based on the keyword(s) that you passed into your script to see if the xml items contain the values that you are looking for
- display the list of items, use CCI URL’s so that the end user can either view or edit the DCR.

Thanks for the suggestions. The only question I have is the speed of this script when working against a fairly huge volume of files (17K files on average). Has anyone tried this out?

I suppose it depends on exactly what you're doing, but just to give you an idea, we have a search script that takes approximately 10 minutes to look through about 1,000 DCRs....

I agree, it does depends on how you've setup the search and what fields you're limiting the search to. We get results returned under 10 secs based on 1000 DCRs. Then again, we limit which DCR fields will be searchable.

Oh, let me clarify my previous post... 10 min. is for traversing the HTML dir, then searching a DCR field if the html is templated. We wanna make sure we're only changing DCRs that are currently in use. Probably what takes so long....

maybe there is a chance to limitate the amounts of dcr in your search. for example a search cgi where you can limitate the search for only a few workareas. another suggestion is that you use the name of the dcr in context you're searching for. for example use the month in the dcr-name, so you can restrict the search via a regex.
