HTML text from Database not using Page Breaks

Hey, first off i'm really really sorry if this has been asked and i am missing it, i've searched the forums but not found anything specific to the issue im having

Using Eclipse Indigo to design a report, the report has a table in it with a dynamic text set to format="html" to read a field out of my database. The resulting data is around 10 pages long in this example... 
 
Instead of auto paging every n number of lines as i would expect, it puts all the HTML read in on a single page, and then includes blank spare pages after. I can't for the life of me see why

I have included the rptdesign file, and also a couple of screenshots (obscured i'm afraid as its client data) incase anyone can help me

I think part of the problem is that you have row["ODE_SECTION_TermsAndConsitions"] in a text item inside your table. That is going to show as one row.

Is the data your getting from ODE_SECTION_TermsAndConsitions HTML? 
 
Instead of placing this in a text item have you tried putting it in just the table yet? This should place everything in it's own row allowing BIRT to show the page breaks.

forgive me for not following but how do i do this?

I was under the impression that the only way you could format the HTML to the screen was to put it into a text box first and set it to HTML??

I've attached an example showing how I got this to work. I created a table with two columns and one row. Then I added my "html" field from my data set and made the column invisible. Then in the second column I was able to use a dynamic text item and bind it to the hidden "html" item.

Hiya, Thanks for your continued help in this, its driving me nuts! Your example worked perfectly until i then tried to implement it on mine, then it just did the same as before

So...i took a snippet of the data i am loading into it and put it into your example, and it breaks your example

I have attached the file here, any advice as to what is going on would be MOST greatful!

Looking at the modified example you posted the terms and conditions are all in the same row which is why this isn't breaking after n rows. Is this how the data is stored? My example assumed they were broken up in individual rows.

yours kind of was as well though, as you were just wrapping the word test in the <h> brackets, and surely would be treated in the same way?

If this can't work i am going to be forced by the powers that be to drop BIRT which is not something i want to do

One way to do this is you could grab the terms and put it into a PGV. Then split it every N lines in an array. Then add each element of your array into a new label forcing a page break after each one. I'll work on an example and post it when I'm done.

Then added them in the fetch() of the the data set. Then I created a table with the new row. In the onCreate() of that element I set the value to a PGV then displayed the PGV in the row next to it in a text item set to HTML. This will split everything up by row and should allow you to create a page break every n rows. I used apache commons to get the data from the text file, but you may not need this if the data is in a DB.

Thanks for that. I have ended up tackling it slightly differently to ensure that tables and other html elements maintain groupings.

I wrote a quick stored proc to chunk the data into a temporary table and then had the BIRT table bind to that as a data source, took a little bit of tweaking here and there but works.

Can you advise whether this bug in BIRT is likely to be fixed in a future release?
