workarea+full path
point_taken
Hello:
I'm trying figure out how to grab the entire/full file path through an .ipl. I know I can get the workarea with __VALUE__(iw_workarea), but how do append the file path past the workarea.
Thank you for any help.

What are you talking about? Are you talking about an externaltask script? What is the thing you want the
entire/full file path
of? You can only use directives like __VALUE__ in a wft file. You need to ask a better question.

If you're in an iwperl script as part of an externaltask in a workflow - you create a TeamSite::WFtask object ($task) and then use methods like:
$task->GetArea() - to get the workarea path
$task->GetFiles() - to get a list of area-relative paths to files associated with the job.
See the perldoc for TeamSite::WFtask and the workflow tutorial and/or 5.5.2 SP3 TeamSIte Workflow Developer's Guide for more information and boilerplates for externlatask scripts

Assuming this is what he was asking, then he would need to concatenate the workarea path with the relative file path to get the full path. If he doesn't know how to do that in perl, then he has got a long hill to climb.

Cut them a little slack to begin with - wait until they ask the same question 10 times before you start assuming they need more assistance than they can get from the forums....

I don't think It's all that bad to expect people to ask intelligent questions. Providing enough detail to allow those of us who try and help people is not asking too much is it? People who expect to plug this application in and understand how to use it with no training is a pipe dream. Come on, I know deep down you wish you could be as mean as I am sometimes. Dontcha?

Yeah, but this is a newbie. They'll figure out how to ask better questions. When they acheive enthusiast status, if they're still asking questions with not enough info, then you can have at 'em.
Put your cranky pants back on the shelf, Dave!

I disagree. The sooner people get the picture that they need training before tackling a beast like TeamSite the better. If you all just lead them down the path of fake glitter and roses they will think they can do stuff they cannot do themselves. If only the docs for workflow were better, people wouldn't have to be so lost.
