"This chart contains no data." for chart in table

Hi,

I used this tuto to display filtered series in a chart :

It suits me, except for one case : when there is no data, the chart is not displayed with "This chart contains no data." label. This is technically obvious as no chart is created, but for the consistency of the look and feel, I would like to display such an "empty chart" in that case, as it is done for other charts.

Any solution ?

In the expression builder of the y axis you could check to see if there is any data. If there isn't you could give the series a 0 value with something like this 
 
<pre class='_prettyXprint _lang-auto _linenums:0'>if(row["someRow"] == null) {
0;
}else{
row["someRow"]
}</pre>

This is not a solution, because no chart is created by the table.
In that case I would like to display an empty chart instead of an empty area.

Great to see that you found your way to my blogpost :-) 
 
Can you try this: 
- create a dummy grid (one row, one column) just above or below the report table that contains the chart 
- bind the grid to the same data set 
- put a label in the grid cell that says "This chart contains no data" 
- set the visibility expression of the grid row to something like this: 
<pre class='_prettyXprint _lang-auto _linenums:0'>if (row["YOURCOLUMN"==null) false; else true;</pre>
