Who is viewing my report
GaryL
Hello -
Is there a way that we can audit a report on who is viewing the report, and on what date and time?
I thought this information is stored on the backend PostgreSQL database where the iServer is installed. I monitored and compared the number of rows in all the tables after opening a few reports, the number of rows returned are all the same from all the tables. It looks to me it?s not storing anywhere in the PostgreSQL database. So, is it possible to audit a report on who is viewing the report, and on what date and time? Thanks much.

Shrewd,
It sounds like you are hosting the reports on the BIRT iServer.
If this is the case, have you had a chance to review the "Usage and Error Logging"?
These settings can be changed in the Configuration Console (
http://server:8900/acadmin/config/
by default) in the Advanced View.
On the Advanced View page:
Click "System" in the left hand side menu
Click the "Properties" button in the main frame
Review the "Usage Logging" and "Error Logging" tabs
Depending on how you are wanting to track the users behavior (running reports versus reviewing already generated content) will determine how you will need to adjust the settings here.
I hope this helps you out in tracking the behaviors you are interested in.
Further, there is also a sample Usage and Error Log Consolidator in the "Server Integration Technology" package for the BIRT iServer. This makes reporting off of the data somewhat easier at times.

Thanks Ryan. That helps. I was able to log the user usage on reports/dashboards, etc. I researched a bit on the log consolidator application. It seems like we can only make a database connection to an Oracle database. Does it work for MS SQL?
Thanks again.

Shrewd,
You would need to customize the sample application to use a different database.
There may be changes that need to be made, especially with regards to CREATE SEQUENCE as different databases implement it in different ways (sometimes subtly).
The source code is included so that you can use it as a base to create your own application that is customized to your needs.
