How to dispaly pop up windows in BIRT report

how to display the pop up windows in birt report.
ex: display pop up msg like "this is report" in Birt report
ex2: I created normal report parameter. in this report parameter i mentioned as required paramater.
so now i want to validate this parameter. if user is not entered it display please enter this value.
i wrote some code in "validate" in reports(script).

if( BirtDateTime.diffDay(params["Start Date"].value,params["End Date"].value) >=1 )
{true;}
else{
//alert("the end date should be greater than the start date);
false;
}
In the above function is not accepted.could you please send the suggestions.

To display an alert() in birt you would need to do this in a text element.<br />

To validate a parameter and display an alert() you would have to create a custom parameter page. <a class='bbc_url' href='http://www.birt-exchange.org/org/forum/index.php/blog/45/entry-453-custom-parameter-pages/'>Take a look at this blog entry</a>. Once you've created the parameters you can use javascript to validate the data and give the user feedback.
