Keep Birt from Re-running Stored Procedure When Printing
nimebejo
After running a report the user wants to print it. When printing the report, BIRT reruns the report. Because Maximo uses a scripted database we can't execute stored procedures in the normal method. Instead, we kick it off using a Begin End; statement inside of the Fetch on our data source. The stored procedure writes some data to a temp table that is displayed in the report. The temp table is cleared each time the report is run. The problem we are encountering is that we need to run the stored procedure once only and then print it without the stored procedure being run again.
Any ideas how to print a report without running the stored procedure again?

How are you printing. Why do you think it is being executed again? If you are using the viewer to print the report is should be using the report document and no re-execution should happen.

<p><span style="font-size:14px;">mblock, It appears Maximo does indeed run the report twice. The first run is rendered in the web viewer, then if you select the printer ICON, you get a choice of HTML or PDF. If you choose PDF the report runs once more, HTML must use the report document. I confirmed this by running the Maximo supplied report usage report.</span></p><p> </p><p><span style="font-size:14px;">nimebejo, if your report is parameterized (<strong><span style="font-weight:bold;color:rgb(68,68,68);">Reports</strong><strong> </strong>that have user inputted parameters which require the user to enter values on the <strong><span style="font-weight:bold;color:rgb(68,68,68);">report's</span></strong><strong> </strong>request page)</span></span></p><p><span style="font-size:14px;">you can take advantage of an undocumented parameter. Create a parameter called __format (two underscores) in your report. When you generate the request page you'll see in the list of parameters. Now all you need is to add the format, default it to pdf, xls etc.</span></p><p><span>When you now run the report it will be rendered in that output format. <p>This worked great for us to display the report directly in Excel. However, we are getting prompted several times for our username and password prior to the report displaying in Excel. Has anyone seen this before?</p>

<p>Yes, I just saw it this past week after migration to Win 7. Popup blocker settings solved it.</p>
