MSWord with headings defined possible?

Is it possible to generate a MSWord report, in which certain headings would already be marked up with "Heading 1" and "Heading 2" styles? What would be the best strategy to do that if not available out of the box?

A little background:
I am using BIRT 4.2.2. A client needs a Word document with a TOC. Word can generate a TOC, but relies on the style markup (Heading 1, Heading 2 etc) to determine what is a chapter/sub-chapter etc. Right now BIRT generates the Word file without this markup, so the client would need to manually edit 200 pages and mark up headings as "Heading 1", "Heading 2" etc. I am trying to automate this by generating a Word file with headings already set, so the client would be able to generate a TOC without any manual work.
