Export to Excel in Birt Report

In my application, I already have the option to Export to PDF; Which works fine. Now i have included the option to export to Excel with the same design file. The report gets exported to excel, and has the same look as in pdf.

But it does not serve the purpose of having the report in excel format. Because the a single column has multiple cells in it. Please see below the the attached screen shot of the report. How can i avoid having multiple cells for a single column? Please help !
