Workareas & Performance

Couple of questions we are researching:
Does increasing the number of workareas on a branch affect performance of TeamSite (5.0.1)? (For example- each workarea has the same content approx 1,800 files. Increasing from 25 -> 30 workareas)
Does the amount of history contained in the workareas affect performance? i.e. workarea which has been in place for several weeks containing history for all changes approx 1,000 per day vs. a new workarea created based on the latest edition.
Thanks,
Gwen

History is not preserved in the workareas - it is preserved in the backing store (which generally one associates with the staging area on a branch).
I believe in pre-5.5.2 versions of TeamSite - you might be paying a bit more overhead per workarea than you do in 5.5.2, but I'm not entirely sure of that.
Generally it's not the number of files you see in a workarea that constitute overhead - but the number of *modified* files in a workarea. All other files are shared between the workareas, the staging area, and/or editions.
I'm not sure if this answers your question, if not - please try expanding a bit on what it is you are looking to ascertain.
