<p>I haven't tried it yet but I think you should be able to use something like iText to do this. I've used iText in the past using the BIRT API's to render the PDF then modified them with iText.</p>

<p>Be careful with password protecting PDFs, in some (most, in my experience) cases the protection offered is minimal, and, for example, Linux users aren't even slowed down by the password.</p><p>If you want to really protect your content (from either being read or some other restriction) I'd take some other route.</p><p> </p><p>Jim</p>
