Limit to file versions?
Bowker
TS 5.5.2
W2K
I have a need to submit the same file (about 125kb) with MINOR changes a couple of hundred times per day !
Am I going to run into any issues?
I don't need lots of history - like 2 or 3 days worth so If possible I can delete versions more than a few days old, but I don't think that's possible.

Submitting the same file (modified) a number of times will not cause any issues, other than creating new versions of the file.
One of the ways to remove history is by deleting published editons. Each time you submit the file, publish an edition. If your file is the only file in an edition, you could eventually delete this edition (command line tool iwrmed) and lose this particular version of the file.
Make sure that you have a subsequent version of the file before you delete a version.
CAVEAT- please be careful before you delete an edition. Every time you publish an edition, the edition contains all files submitted since the previous published edition, and not just your file. When you delete an edition, you lose the intermediate versions of all files contained in that edition.

the edition contains all files submitted since the previous published edition
To be a bit more accurate - the edition contains
references
to files, not the actual files themselves. When you delete an edition, if you are also deleting the
last
reference to a particular version of a file, that version is subject to "garbage collection" / removal from the backing store.
Smitty has posted (somewhere in one of the forums) information about a utility he developed at Nike to limit the number of editions on a per-branch basis - and thus by routinely deleting the oldest edition when creating a new one [after N editions exist on that branch] he effectively gets disk space restored because ultimately he will end up deleting the last reference to a specific version of one or more files when he deletes that edition.

Thanks fish, for the correction.
Another correction to my posting:
Make sure that you have a subsequent version of the file before you delete a version.
That should read--
Make sure you have a
submitted
subsequent version of the file before you delete a version.
