Check report variable existence in expression designer

I have report library, which has DataSet witch computed field. Expression is"test"+var["MyVariable"]. My need is to check, if expression "test"+var["MyVariable"] is valid before getting Runtime Error, which occurs, when variable is not defined in a report, which inherits my library Data Set. How to achieve this?

Even if it works, I would not do it. Why not use user properties, so that the object is encapsulated in the library with no dependencies.
