Previewing Files during Upload from Local File Sys
sunil_j
Hi,
I have attened the recent Interwoven 6 launch in Sydney and saw the demonstration of Media Bin and its awesome capabilities.
I wish to know how can I preview files, when I have an upload button on a DCT and I need to upload Images and documents from a local Windows file system rather to use the images from a Media Bin Image Server or Interwoven TeamSite Server?
Any comments on this would be highly appreciated.
Regards

sunil_j,
Did you want to upload images to your teamsite server through your DCT where the image resides on your local computer rather than the media bin image server?
in the past, we have been able to acheive this by adding a custom callout button on the DCT.

Yes you got me right. I am also using the same approach and I am successfully able to do the upload to the TeamSite server. But now using the Media Bin I want to preview images on Browsing, before uploading to the TeamSite/Media Bin Asset Server. Is that Possible ?

Sunil_j,
You got me here. I can not answer on the MediaBin part. Hopefully, someone else will jump in and answer that.

Sunil,
As you may have observed in Sydney, the typical MediaBin-TeamSite integration involves the use of a DCT call-out that enables a user to search/browse MediaBin for an asset (image or document) to associate with the DCR.
Associating assets with DCRs in this way is useful because the formatting of the asset rendition can be determined by the PTL(s) that display the DCR data, and updates to the source asset can trigger updates to the rendition(s) deployed to TeamSite.
While browsing the MediaBin server, one can upload a new image (typically an orginal Photoshop file) to MediaBin, then associate that new asset to the DCR. The "Upload to MediaBin" option uses a standard file selection dialogue box from the browser. Hence, Windows and Mac users can set their view of the file selection box to "Thumbnail" at the OS level.
This level of preview capability varies by OS and OS version (it's better in Mac OS X than v9, and better in Windows XP than Win2000). Also, some file types get better preview support than others.
I'm responsible for MediaBin product marketing at Interwoven, and I'm always open to feedback. We've tried hard to maintain a "thin client" approach so adding preview-generation code to the client is not something we've scheduled.
Thanks for your interest,

Sunil.. when u r uploading an image say from the dcr i am assuming u r also uploading the image into a teamsite repository.. in which case u can preview the image pretty easily...
Here is the sample code that can do the trick..
****************
$image=$y->param('ProductImage');
print ("<html><head><title>Preview </title></head>");
print("<b>this is mark andy</b>:");
print("$ProductImage");
print("<img src=\"ProductImage \"> ");
print("</html>");
***********************
its a simple perl code...or else u can even invoke the smart context editor..a dn its pretty simple..
let me know if u have any more doubts..

This may be clear from the preceding. I thought I would call out the MB-specifics.
I can only speak to the MediaBin component and not the whole set-up. But the MediaBin server itself produces a preview as part of the ingestion process and therefore only for assets inserted into the MediaBin repository (other parts of ingestion are metadata normalization for display and search, and the generation of fractal signatures for search by image content).
For some image formats the operating system or TeamSite may be able to help.
Cheers,
Lyman
