Hi, I am currently using the drill-through with parameter plus sort expression added in beforeFactory to support sorting on columns. I understand this entails rerunning the report every time the user wants to sort. My question is, given the above approach is there a way to specify when the report reruns to pick up the data from the rptdocument that gets generated rather than go all the way to the data source. That way though the request comes to the server the overhead of going back to the data source & recomputing everything is avoided. Is there anyway this can be achieved (tweaks or otherwise)? Thanks Michael. I did try that, it works for just viewing the report. But the problem is the sorting via the drill through hyperlinks which doesn't seem to work, i.e. if i change the link-to target to point to the rptdocument the sorting doesn't seem to work. As i mentioned earlier i have a script which programatically adds sort conditions to the tables in the report (based on internally set hidden report parameters, like this simple example, <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='http://digiassn.blogspot.in/2007/05/birt-strong-suit-is-in-realm-of-online.html'>http://digiassn.blogspot.in/2007/05/birt-strong-suit-is-in-realm-of-online.html</a>) along with creating drill-through hyper-links on each column of the tables for the sorting. These now don't seem to work because it looks to me like only the render task is involved when using the rtpdocument as the target. Is there a way to work around this problem and have this (sorting) work when using the rptdocument?

Sorry for the delay. I have never tried sorting by calling the report document. I'll have to give it a whirl. What's your BIRT version?
