Adding a Menu item

pvpkumar

I want to add Set Metadata item to the File Menu in TeamSite GUI. I had modified the iw.cfg file and added the line (infact there was alreay a commented line for Set Metadata, and I removed the comment). But the same is not coming in the GUI. I have restarted the TeamSite server after the iw.cfg modification

Are you trying webdesk or webdesk pro? With webdesk there may be two additional parameters on the line in iw.cfg and you may have to run iwreset -ui.

4290.html

4292.pdf

BreakLine.ssd.zip

I added the following line to iw.cfg
custom_menu_item_metadata="File", "Set Metadata", "iwmetadata.cgi", "all", "scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=640,height=545"

I have reset the UI using iwreset -ui command

I tried with Web Desk and also logging as Admin/Master roles. Still not showing this menu item

What OS are you running on? If on Solaris which iw.cfg did you edit? There are two - one in <IW-HOME>/etc/iw.cfg and one is /etc/iw.cfg. The correct one is the latter - /etc/iw.cfg. Changes to the first one do not seem to make any difference as the system is reading the /etc/iw.cfg.

Hope that helps.

if you're using web desk you have to add "","500" in the iw.cfg Smiley Happy

I think in WebDesk the "" parameter is the name of the window to open/load with the results of running the command. I haven't figured out how to get the CMI to open in a new window every time I use it (even if I put _random in this parameter it still loads in the same window when I select the custom menu item again without closing the window that was opened the first time I called it- which can be pretty lame, even though I think TeamSite generally opens too many windows). I don't know what a blank in this field would cause.

I don't know what the second parameter does.

Thanks. I am able to view the menu item now.

But it just opening a blank window. I am not able to see any data entry form. I used the example metadata-rule.cfg and datacapture.cfg files coming with the installation. Any other settings I need to make ?

Check your apache logs (IWHOME/httpd/iw-webd/log). Press CTRL-N in the blank window to see what URL it is pulling.

pvpkumar

There is no file in apache log directory. The url pointing when clicking Set Metadata menu item is http://9.29.46.229/iw/webdesk/framework/lib/utf8form.jsp

If there is no apache error log something is really wrong with your server.

pvpkumar

There is no iw-webd directory under IWHOME/httpd.
There is one iw-webd directory under iw-home and it has logs directory under that, but no files.

We are using IBM HTTP server as web server.

I am able to do all other operation on the server like creating branches, workarea, directories, files etc.....

hint 1:webdesk got problems with relativ paths. you have to work only with absolute paths.
hint 2: webdesk/ts got problems with funny letters (for example the german ä,ö,ü, etc.)
hint 3: /iw-home/httpd/iw-bin is the correct place for custom cgi's

pvpkumar

Suitation is improved. Now, with the absolute path to the cgi script, I am getting a window quickly with Page Cannot find window.
http://9.29.46.229/opt/interwoven/iw-home/httpd/iw-bin/iwmetadata.cgi
But I checked the directory and there is iwmetadata.cgi file

check that show_env.cgi is running.

maybe the file permissions are set wrong (chmod 755 *.cgi)

pvpkumar

How to check whether show_env.cgi is running on UNIX. if not how to start it ?

tvaughan

Does your TeamSite gui have a menu item "View --> ShowEnv" ??

If not:

1) Check to see if $iwhome/httpd/iw-bin/show_env.cgi exists
2) If you're on Unix, Is the file executable?
3) Check to see if your iw.cfg contains the line:
custom_menu_item_env="View", "Show Env", "show_env.cgi", "author,editor, admin,master", "scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=640,height=545" "" "500"

I do have show_env.cgi available under /iw-home/httpd/iw-bin. I added a menu item linking this cgi program. But getting same error as clicking Set Metadata. The error is "HTTP 404 Not found". We are using HTTP (IBM Apache) as Web Server. TS is on AIX. I have restarted the web server, but no difference.
The surprising fact is, I have another TS server which is a deto of this machine and Set Metadata works fine. I didn't do any thing different in these 2 machines in terms of configuration. Compated the iw.cfg, http.conf files of 2 machines. Looks same. Dont understand why it is working fine in one and not in other.
