Reference database columns with more user-friendly names?
AndrewBDP

Hoping the BIRT Experts have some good news for me ...

Users are requesting to have database column names changed to more closely resemble columns they are generating in reports.

Does the iServer report designer support any kind of "mapping" of database columns?

Thanks in advance for your time!

Lots of ways to do this Andrew, I usually alias in the SQL:

SELECT

column1 as 'myColumnName',

columnb as 'myNextColumnName'

and so on.

You can also set an alias in the "Output Columns" section of the data set. You can even localize it there if you need to.

Brian

Thanks so much for your rapid response Brian!

As setting the Alias in the Output Columns approach applies to the data set, this would have to be done for every report design, correct?

If this is the case, it seems the "global" approach would be updating the alias in the SQL for the Information Object?

Thanks again!

If you are using Information Objects there are properties on the column for Display Name. Alternatively you could also use Data Objects.
