Dynamic Chart Generation
birt_all

Hi,

We need to design a Line Series Chart with the Details Table.

We have requirement, such that user should have option in the viewer for changing the chart types (Bar,Bubble, pie etc.,) so that chart should be generated dynamically.

Thank You

I understand that you have this requirement. However from a visualization perspective this is very bad practice. Each chart has a purpose (line=trend, bar=comparative...), Enabling users to change the chart type will give them bad charts.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. We tried to generate by the Chart scripts in the before factory event. Unfortunately we couldn't achieve some chart types like Bubble ,pie etc.,

Thank you

Can you provide more detail on your requirements?

Following is our requirement:

a)Design: The Report need to be developed with a details (Eg: Statistics ) table and a chart of any type for the same.

b ) Execution: The Report need to be executed for the above design with the option of selecting the chart types at run time. Based on the selection the chart type need to be changed.

c)Export: The Report need to be exported in the available formats with the chart type that the user selected.

As I said I understand that you have this requirement. However from a visualization perspective this is very bad practice. Each chart has a purpose (line=trend, bar=comparative...), Enabling users to change the chart type will give them bad charts. The easiest way to do this is having all charts and playing with the visibility (or display) to hid show charts. I do not know enough about the DEAPI, to provide a better (fuller) answer.

I agree with Mica, but if you have to allow the ability to select what type of chart then a quick way to do this without needing to use the DEAPI is to create each type of chart in a grid, allow the user to select from a parameter, then before anything gets rendered you could drop all but the selected grid from your report design. You can also do this from the DEAPI, but this might be the quickest way to get up and testing with that requirement.
