Is there a restriction on the number of characters that a data capture template name should have.
Pl let me know.

Are you asking for a minimum number or a maximum number?

I've never pushed the boundaries before, but I imagine that the minimum number is 1 character and the maximum number is either 128 or 256 characters.

Is there some problem you're running into?

What's preventing you with just naming your templates something reasonable, like in the range of 10-30 characters?

Eventually you will hit the OS limit which may mean that the template category/type including branch should be less than 256 characters on NT? But also remember that DCRs should be in directories under the data directory (Y:\default\main\long\branch\path\WORKAREA\name\templatedata\category\type\data\directory\path\dcr should be less than 255)?

I find that it works reasonably if you don't have very deep branching or directory structure and you keep directory names less than 15 characters (remember that category/type map to directory names).
