How to get dataset row values and pass to variable

Hi, I need to get the rows inside a dataset and pass it on a variable so I can use it as parameter. When I say variable, it is the "Report / Page Variable" found under data explorer and nto some var definition. I tried every possible way but none worked. It always is null. I tried it in oncreate on my table, table row (where the dataset is bound). I also tried it on the oncreate, render and all events on the column binding above. I also tried it in the initialize event and all event of the report itself. Pls help me. Sorry. I have a report that uses xml datasource via a service. It has cascading parameters. One parameter is office that is bound to a dataset called dsOffice which is filtered by region id, this parameter is dependent on Region parameter. let us just assume dsoffice has the ff data:Office 1 = 1Office 2 =2ALL = -1 I can just easily pass this as param["Office"].value but I was trying to achieve on getting all data from the datasource and not just 1 item. I know there is multiselect but I need to pass the others that were not selected, this is suppose "ALL" is chosen. I know I can easily pass a value for ALL but since office is dependent to region, it would be easier if I can just get the list of all offices under that region by getting the all the items from the dataset itself. So that 1 item or ALL, I can just pass a string id to the service peroperty binding, then use it as id list for my HQL like getALlOffice from table in (params.officeIdlist). SO what I did is<ul class='bbc'><li>I Added a script to the dsOffice as stated above.</li><li>Create a report variable called varOfficeList.</li><li>Bound the varaible it to the dsOffice and added in the expression this line:</li></ul>var str = "";

str Now this is working great, I can even see it in the report by dragging and drop the varOfficeList report variable to the report. Take a look at the attached design. It uses a scripted data source but should give you an idea. P.S. I think the reason yours does not work is that the parameter task is separate from the generation task so the report variable never gets set.

Sorry I downloaded the report but I don't see anywhere that you used a report variable. My dataset datasource is working fine. My problem is how to pass the dataset's rows to a report variable. So I can use it as a datasource's property binding. PLs take a look at my picture(highlighted-counselorList) attached and see what I mean.

The reason why the report variable is null is that the parameter task (when the data set gets executed for the purpose of displaying parameters) is separate and will not apply to the generation task.

Thanks for your reply, I'm putting my code on the image script on 'onCreate event'.
I tested this code can be put even in 'onRender'.
But I'm really not sure why 'row)' is always Null.

That is because 'row)' is only valid in an expression (using the expression builder). In code you will need something like this:

Unfortunately i'm not able to put the screen shot ,please find the details of what I have done. 
1. I have added two images 1. green.png 2.yellow.png as an embedded image. 
2. inserted the grid layout with two rows.
3. Add and embedded image to the top row of the grid.
3. Select the image -> go to script tab ->select 'onRender' from the drop down, please the code which i have put in there

1. If the change the condition of 'if' statement everything works fine say if i make 'true' or 'false' the image will change automatically. Please find the code snippet for the same.

two things:
<ol><li>Don't use embedded image, use images in resource and place the images in the root of your project. Using embedded image dynamically like this will impact performance because it will embed an image for every row.</li>
<li>Don't use grid, use tables. Grids do not loop through the data, they are static.</li>

Thanks a lot, you are right if i use the table i will get the values and report runs fine.
But i have constrain i need to use one single image for the full table. Is there any possibility to achieve that ??
I need to do the internal calculation of different rows of the table and put one single image.Kindly help .

I have a constrains, i need use only one image for the whole table (i.e on top ). The image to display on top depends on the table values considered from different rows. Is there a way to achieve this ??
Ex:if(row)=='2W' and row==8)

}
 
Note : It is also fine for me if i would be able to display an image any where out side the table but inside the report design,depending on the different value i get from the dataset(or table- row)

The top row is the header and it is fixed.
I have a bar chart with the below fields as the data set, I want to have an image at the top of this bar chart(one image) at the top of the bar chart which tell the status of the chart.The image at the top of the bar chart which tell the status depends on the value of the inputs of the data set.

I resolved in the other way
1. I created the table and inserted the an image, 'on render' event of the image I wrote the below code.
Here depending on the required condition I set the global variable.
