Birt runtime xls report warning
frames88

Hi

I am having an issue with xls report. Using birt runtime 3.7.2 version and the report is generated successfully. But when I try to open the file in Microsoft Excel, it is showing the following warning:

"The file you are trying to open, 'Test.xls', is in a different format than specified by this file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"

Upon clicking the "Yes" button, I am able to see the report data. Even though the data is showing in excel, this warning message is not going very well with the users. How to get rid off this message?

Here is my code in the runtime:

// HttpServletResponse respons

IRenderOption options = new RenderOption();

options.setOutputStream(response.getOutputStream());

EXCELRenderOption excelOptions = new EXCELRenderOption(options);

excelOptions.setOutputFormat("xls");

response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");

This is due to the xml based xls emitted by the XLS emitter. You might try using the spudsoft xls emitter or native xls emitter from the devshare that were submitted in contests we've done in the past:

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

Designer Professional has the best Excel emitter by far, including features like live Excel functions, pivot tables, etc. You can try it out by downloading a free trial of BDPro:

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Does recent birt version support xlsx format? If so, we will consider upgrading birt from 3.7.2, since Spudsoft xls emitter also requires adding some additional jars.
