google maps issue when you have multiple groups plotting at a single point?
Arif shah

Hi,

I am doing some crime reporting and plotting different crimes on google maps. We have used custom icons for different crime types to be plotted on the google maps. I am facing the following two issues

1) If two crimes/incidents have happened at the same address/long/lat point, The Icons overlap each other and thus the tooltip will only show one type of crime. Is there anyway to either show all crimes tooltips or show all crimes types into a single tooltip if there is more than one crime at a single location?

2) Is there anyway to show part of the hidden icon so that the user knows that there is more than one crime type at a single location?

Each crime type is a single record in table and each crime type/record was supposed to be plotted seperately using individual icon type, but I have just realized that when the icons completely overlap each other, We cannot show to the user that there have been more than one crime at that location

Your help will be really appreciated

P.S: See the attached snapshot of the map. The tooltip shows only information for one incident while there are two incidents at the same location. How do I show both incidents, their dates and crime category into a single tooltip if they happened at the same address/coordinates

Regards

Arif

If the tooltips are based on database fields you will have to group your data based on address and build the tooltips from the grouped data, not individual records which would restrict you to only the data in that record.

You could also look at the idea of a different icon for multiples, maybe a smaller one that made it clear that there was another one behind it.

Lastly you could also offset the point for multiples. This could be misleading though.

Hope that helps.
