Installation error when installing F-Type on Windows 2008 R2
joec2000

Hello,

My Actuate sales rep indicated I should post this problem on the forums.

I was able to install F-Type on my Windows 7 laptop but quickly realized that my laptop doesn't have sufficient resources to run the product. Windows is constantly reporting that I'm low on memory.

That being the case, I decided to install the product on one of our Windows 2008 R2 servers. After double clicking the installer's EXE file, it brought up a window titled "BIRT iHub F-Type" with the text "Welcome to the Actuate BIRT iHub F-Type Installer". After clicking "Next", I received the following error message:

"A BIRT iHub service is running. Please uninstall BIRT iHub and reboot your computer before reinstalling"

I know for a fact that there are no BIRT iHub products on this computer but, in the spirit of being thorough, I tried another Windows 2008 R2 server that we have and received the exact same error message. Again, no BIRT iHub product on this other host either.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

- Joe

joec2000,

Can you look at the list of running applications in task manager (showing all processes for all users) and see if you find any processes with similar naming structures where # represents some number (1 or more digits):

pmd#

encycsrvr#

ihubc#

ihubd#

jencycsrvr#

jfctsrvr#

jsrvr#

fctsrvr#

postgres

You should not receive this message unless you have one of those processes running which would indicate some form of Actuate iServer or iHub running.

joec2000

I have confirmed that there are no processes matching those names running on this host.

Attached is list of running processes (produced by "Process Explorer" and then imported into Excel).

Thanks,

Hi Joe,

Would it be possible to also provide a list of your running services from when you are attempting the installation and receive this error?

joec2000

For unknown reasons, Task Manager doesn't seem to give you the option to export and I don't see a way to get a list of running services from Process Explorer (sorry, I'm not a Windows guy).

I ran "tasklist /SVC", exported to a CSV and imported into Excel - hopefully that's what you're looking for.

JFreeman

Hi Joe,

Could you launch "services.msc" (Or select the "services" button from within the services tab of task manager), the select Action -> Export List and send the output saved in CSV format?

Thanks,

joec2000

Here you go! I had to convert the CSV to Excel - it won't let me upload CSVs.

JFreeman

Thank you for the services list.

One more thing, could you please send me the output of a "netstat -ano"?

Here you go!

The cause of this issue has been determine to be due to not having access to the Windows Find command.

The script within the installer uses the Windows Find command for part of it's check to determine if an iHub 3 service already exists. If the Windows Find command cannot be accessed, the resulting response triggers the portion of the script which causes the existing installation error to occur.

In this particular instance, cygwin was installed and overriding the Windows Find command with the *nix Find command. Temporarily removing cygwin from the class path allowed for the Windows Find command to be accessed which prevented the error from occurring.

Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) Windows Remote Management (WinRM) service implements the WS-Management protocol for remote management. WS-Management is a standard web services protocol used for remote software and hardware management. The WinRM service listens on the network for WS-Management requests and processes them. The WinRM Service needs to be configured with a listener using winrm.cmd command line tool or through Group Policy in order for it to listen over the network. The WinRM service provides access to WMI data and enables event collection. Event collection and subscription to events require that the service is running. WinRM messages use HTTP and HTTPS as transports. The WinRM service does not depend on IIS but is preconfigured to share a port with IIS on the same machine. The WinRM service reserves the /wsman URL prefix. To prevent conflicts with IIS, administrators should ensure that any websites hosted on IIS do not use the /wsman URL prefix. Manual Network Service

Windows Search Provides content indexing and property caching for file, email and other content (via extensibility APIs). The service responds to file and email notifications to index modified content. If the service is stopped or disabled, the Explorer will not be able to display virtual folder views of items, and search in the Explorer will fall back to item-by-item slow search. Started Manual Local System

Windows Time Maintains date and time synchronization on all clients and servers in the network. If this service is stopped, date and time synchronization will be unavailable. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. Started Automatic Local Service

Windows Update Enables the detection, download, and installation of updates for Windows and other programs. If this service is disabled, users of this computer will not be able to use Windows Update or its automatic updating feature, and programs will not be able to use the Windows Update Agent (WUA) API. Started Manual Local System

WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service WinHTTP implements the client HTTP stack and provides developers with a Win32 API and COM Automation component for sending HTTP requests and receiving responses. In addition, WinHTTP provides support for auto-discovering a proxy configuration via its implementation of the Web Proxy Auto-Discovery (WPAD) protocol. Manual Local Service

One more thing, could you please send me the output of a "netstat -ano"?

Jesse, I'm having the same problem and attached is "Services" that are running at time of install

JFreeman

Could you please open a command prompt window and provide the output of running the following commands:

1) sc query "Actuate iHub 3 Service"

2) find /?

Robsen

I had the same problem.
Ftype Installation wouldnt work because it suspected the ihub service running.
"Find /?" command didnt work at all.

I fixed it by deleting the cygwin entries in the system variables Path entry so it starts again with C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS; ....

This made the find command available and the installation worked fine afterwards.

I have the same problem but find /? command seems to work fine. Any thoughts? i also tried the online version of birt analytics.

JFreeman

Are you also installing in a Windows environment?

if so, what version of Windows?

What is the result of running the following in a command prompt: sc query "Actuate iHub 3 Service"

evza

Hi, thanks for the answer. I am installing on Windows 8.1 , and the answer to sc query "Actuate iHub 3 Service" is "The specified service does not exist as an installed service"

JFreeman

Could you please provide the full output you are receiving when running the find command through cmd prompt?

evza

Sure: find: '/?': No such file or directory

JFreeman

The response you are receiving "find: '/?': No such file or directory" is the response from running a Linux find command and not a window find command.

This indicates you have a program such as cygwin running that is overriding the Windows find command.

Disabling this program during the installation should resolve the issue.

evza

Hi, you are right it seems that git for windows overrides find command.

ankuranwekar

Hi,

I have the same problem.

How do I disable cygwin program?

Thanks!

JFreeman

Steps 1 and 2 of the uninstallation steps for cygwin should stop it: <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

;

Just don't go further than that or you will uninstall it from your system.
