Excel as an alternative to JSAPI

I heard a rumor that one can use Excel as an alternative to the JSAPI when using iHub/F-Type. The context was either accessing iHub directly, or by using Excel formulas where we'd normally use JSAPI. Does any of this ring true? If so, can you point me to a demo that shows this? I can't find anything.

BIRT iHub F-Type has the same live Excel output with live functions, charts, and crosstabs that turn into pivot tables that the full iHub has or that you can get by running reports from BIRT Designer Professional. It's a very powerful Excel emitter, but this obviously doesn't replace the JSAPI which helps you integrate BIRT content into your web applications using simple JavaScript. Hope this helps.
