Space between multiple elements in a grid Cell
Robert Ienei

Hi,

I've tried to make a Birt Design where i have a grid. in a grid cell i need to insert two Label elements. It is working fine, they are on the same line, but it is no space between the two labels.

I found the following documentation: "When items appear in-line, an implied space separates the items. That is, if a grid has two labels "Sample" and "Labels", and they are marked as in-line, the resulting display is "Sample Label", not "SampleLabel"."

In my case it does not work.

In BIRT Report Viewer from Eclipse the 2 Labels are separated with a space, but when i print from BIRT Report Viewer in PDF, in PDF the two labels appear without the space between.

I have Eclipse Kepler + Birt 4.3.2

Where can be the problem(space between labels not appears in Pdf)?

(I need a clean way if possible. I don't really like the solution with label1+ " "+label2)

Thanks,

Robert

Hi,

it seems to be a viewer issue.

I have tested it with different viewers (OS Viewer, BIRT Viewer ToolKit, BIRT Viewer Commercial) and it works fine with the two last and not with the eclipse/BIRT OS viewer.

Try to DL the BIRT Viewer ToolKit.

In BIRT Report viewer works for me too, but in Pdf not.

Thanks,

Hi,

BTW, both export in PDF look good

Sorry, but the Pdfs are not how we expect them. There should be a space between the two Labels.

Description

A cell can contain zero, one or more of the following items. The size of the item is defined to be the size of the cell. The (x, y) properties of the item are ignored. The normal case is one item. When a single item appears in a cell, the items within a row are aligned along the text baseline. If multiple items appear within a cell, alignment is undefined. Some rendering environments may baseline-align the first line, others may not.

When multiple items appear within a cell, each item acts a bit like a section: a like break occurs after each item, causing the items to be vertically stacked. The user can set the "display" property of the items to create an in-line layout: items flow from one line to the next with like breaks imposed by the cell width. In-line layout applies to the following only:

Text (text is treated as a string of text, not a box)

Label

Data item

Image

When items appear in-line, an implied space separates the items. That is, if a grid has two labels "Sample" and "Labels", and they are marked as in-line, the resulting display is "Sample Label", not "SampleLabel".

Uppsss, sorry, my fault.

If you want to keep the space between your two elements, you can either use a grid or put a margin.

Here is a PDF with a 4 points margin on the right element
