Call a function when BIRT window closes
hallj05

Hey,

We are using the Open Source version 4.2.2 of BIRT.

Is there a way to make BIRT do something when the rptdesign window in IE is closed? Also is there any way to force close all other BIRT IE windows which are open?

Since in our BIRT application users can open many different BIRT windows and can access them as long as the values in the session variables say they have permissions.

So we are adding a log out link on the reports which will take them to a report which will clear the session variables causing them to no longer be able to open reports until they use the link to our BIRT application from our main application.

This works fine except that when the user clicks the log out link, all the other BIRT windows are still open, although they can't browse any. But it would be nice if we could close all BIRT windows when the log out link is clicked.

Also if a user instead just closes all the BIRT windows they will still have permission until all IE windows are closed (which clears all the session variables). The issue with this is a user that doesn't have permission to visit the BIRT windows could get to them by entering the URL to get to them, since the session variables would still say the user has permissions. So this is where having a onClose or something like it script would come in handy.

Thanks for any help!

You question is not so much about BIRT but rather general web application behavior. Try searching on google for "closing child window from parent" topic, you may find many solutions there.
