setting default dashboard
jjangiti

Hi,

Is it possible to set a default dashboard in the information console such that when a user logs in he sees the dashboard instead of navigating to the dashboard.

Thanks in advance

What release version of the information console are you utilizing?

iHUB 3

Hi Jesse,

Did I answer your question right.

JFreeman

Yes indeed, thank you for the details.

In the iHub 3 release, the concept of a default dashboard is a bit different. It should be possible to create a setup where when the user logs in they will be defaulted to a particular dashboard. However, it may take a bit of extra configuration.

I am working towards determining a solution and I will follow up with more information once I have progressed further.

JFreeman

Alright, I got this working. It is a pretty straight forward process.

Configure the users Default Dashboard through setting the path to the dashboard within the iHub Administration or the user can configure it themselves through the My Profile option once they have logged in.

After this property has been set for the user, the user should log in through the URL:
http://<hostname>:<port>/iportal/dashboard

;

They will be presented with the login page after which they will be defaulted to the dashboard specified as the Default Dashboard.

Hi Jesse,

I tried what you said above but the screen is blank when the user logs in to iportal through
http://<hostname>:<port>/iportal/dashboard

;
JFreeman

Interesting, my first thought is that it may be a permissions related issue.

Could you please verify the user logging in has the proper permission to view the dashboard specified as their default dashboard?

Please also verify the users default dashboard is applied properly.

jjangiti

I logged in as that user from
http://<hostname>:<port>/iportal/login.do
and was able to run the dashboard successfully. The default dashboard is set as /dashboard/testdashboard.dashboard under the user profile

JFreeman

Could you please attach a screenshot of the users properties and another screenshot of the display when the user logs in with the /dashboard context?

jjangiti

Please find attached. When the user is logged in through iportal/dashboard the screen is completely blank.

JFreeman

Is the path you have specified for the users dashboard the full path to the dashboard?

For example, in my environment the default dashboard path is /Home/JFreeman/DefaultDashboard.dashboard which is the full path to the dashboard from the root of the iHub.

jjangiti

Hi Jesse,

Yes, I had specified the full path.

JFreeman

If you open the browsers debugging interface, do you see any errors occurring when the page displays blank?

Could you please reproduce this issue and attach the log files from the iHub for analysis?

In particular, I would like to examine the ihub, ihubc, ihubservletcontainer and jsrvrihub log files. In a typically installation, these log files should be located within the "./BIRTiHub/iHub/data/server/log" directory.

I have the same problem. Dashboard is not working for a non admin user.

Settings in the profile:

Home Folder: /Home/MyUser

Dashboard URL: /Home/MyUser/dashboard/MyCoolDashboard.dashboard

User has access rights. Its working when he clicks on it. But its not automatically opening when he logs in.

I can't find anything on this in the log files. Searched for "dashboard" in the logs.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

To troubleshoot further, you can contact your local support center (http://www.actuate.com/resources/support/global-support-centers/)
, or we can have one of our Support Engineers contact you directly.

They'll most likely want to know:

1. What version of iHub/iServer you are using?

2. Does it work for any other user?

3. How is the user logging in?

Working with iHub 3.1, the following works...

You can edit the struts-config.xml file in your iHub installation.

In the <forward name="succes" you can set the path to "/dashboard" so the user is always redirected to the dashboard when the login is succesfull. (after this change a restart of the server is needed).

We have in our Documents directory a file "__default_dashboard.dashboard" (the name must be exactly like that). When the user has no default dashboard selected in his/her profile this dashboard is the default dashboard.

So this dashboard is the default dashboard for all our users. On this dashboard we show a report with links to all authorized reports for the specific user.

This works for us.

Thanks for your replies.

Obviously it was a typo, empty space or something because it worked after I reentered the path and reloged in.

The idea of adjusting the struts config could be a usefull idea. Thanks for that.

In summary: Basically it works for every dashboard somewhere in the repo if the path is correct and the user has the permissions for executing it.
