Getting Lines to align properly when creating forms -> PDF
lenburt

Hello there -- i have been working to create forms of various types which have previously been created using Adobe Central Pro. Overall, it has been going well using Grid, Table, text objects and then setting the borders of the cells appropriately. What i have been observing is that once i get it looking pretty good in the Developer preview, when i save it as a PDF the lines do not always look so good. Is there a technique i should be aware of to get a true What-you-see-is-what-you-get> I am using Eclipse BIRT 4.3.2.

I have attached a rptdesign and the resulting PDF. Any tips would be appreciated! -- len

Instead of using the preview tab, I recommend using the Run -> View Report -> In Web Viewer as this can give a more accurate representation of how the report will look when run. The Preview tab tends to have a bit more issues.

Also, the view within the Layout tab when creating the report should be fairly accurate as far as WYSIWYG with a fixed layout and no dynamic modifications to the report through scripting.

Your issue is that in some grids the columns have widths and in some not. For example the first grid if you add all the column widths you get 7.395. The second grid does not have column widths. The grid with 'Item No.' has a total width of 7.114.

What you need to do is make sure all the grids have the EXACT same width. Alternatively you can also try to use percentages for your widths.
