Getting style using API? findStyle(name) does not work!

So I have a v4.4.0 report with styles defined, that I can see in the outline and in the generated xml:

And yet, when trying to get the styles using the ReportDesignHandle, I'm always getting null!

I'm really not sure what I could be doing wrong! Other find seem to work correct (ex: designHandle.findElement("lable1")

work correctly, but not the styles...
 
The findStyledoc says: "Finds a style by its name in this module and the included modules.". So I'm stumped, why can't it find styles?

Can you explain in detail what you are trying to accomplish instead of a specific technical question, we might be able to help better that way.

Ok, well basically, we have empty reports we use as templates, the idea being that users can modify the style of this report, and then via java programming, we read this template, add dataset, fields, etc., and generate a usable 'custom' report using dynamic data from our application. So these reports should be able to re-use the styles defined in the empty template when populating the report (cell background, text style, report data, etc.).
 
So as mentioned, we can generate reports without issue. We can also later read them and alter them so that the report fits with the 'new' structure. Ex: If there was a column 'customerComments' and the comments were removed, we find & remove the column and its associated elements. If a title was changed and "customerComments" become "commentaries", we find the label and change it's text. This is mainly done using the reportDesign.findXxx methods for instance, to find tables, labels, datasets, etc. and that works without issue. 
 
But when trying to find the styles, it never finds the styles! I guess the question could also be, how can we get the report 'styles' using the Birt report API?
 
It's not a CSS style, just a 'normal' style viewable in the Outline.. In the General tab of the Style configuration, it's a "custom style", exactly like you can see here. I just tried the designHandle.findNativeStyle(name), but again, can't seem to find the style.. I guess the findStyle method does not find these types of style, but I can't find what find method I have to use to find this kind of styles!

And actually, maybe I'm not even using the correct object (ReportDesignHandle) to get the style... Maybe I have to use something completely different... Doesn't seem to be the case as the ReportDesignHandle has a findStyle method, but since it always returns null... I'm stumped!

debugging and looking at the source, the findStyle method of the ReportDesignHandle is inherited from org.eclipse.birt.report.model.api.ModuleHandleImpl:

It looks like org.eclipse.birt.report.model.elements.ReportDesign has a working findStyle (from org.eclipse.birt.report.model.core.LayoutModule)

(Not that I'm even positive it should return a SharedStyleHandle... That's what I'm trying to figure out, how to get a report style...) Argh...! 
 
So... Anyone knows how to get the report styles using the Birt report API?

Ok... I finally got it... designHandle.getAllStyles(); returns list of all the report styles, which you can then iterate and find the style you are looking for. Why the findStyle() always return null is beyond me.
 
Working with Birt can be so painful... And it usually is.... $:\$
