Embedding BIRT Report Designer into a web site/application
StevieBoy

Hi

I'm new to the site and to BIRT/Eclipse in general but it all seems very interesting...

Anyway, I am a PhD student wanting to use BIRT RCP Report Designer (RD) 4_4_1 for a short experiment with a number of BI qualified students (<40) i.e. provide them with tutorial instructions (from the cheat sheet/help site) on how to create a simple BI report. But rather than downloading the BIRT software onto all of the desktop PC's I was wondering if there was an easy way to embed the BIRT (RD) source code into a web site that I could create to allow the students to access all of the functionality through a browser (at home as well)... I watched an Actuate video showing how easy it was to embed the BIRT i-HUB F-Type into a web application...

Hope you can help?

Thanks

I am not aware of a way to embed the RCP Report Designer itself into a web application. It may be possible but it will most likely not be easy.

BIRT iHub F-Type includes the Report Studio which is a web interface for creating/editing reports and dashboards to be used on the iHub. Report Studio does not have the full functionality that an installation of the Report Designer will have. However, if the intention is for creating simple reports, this features may be sufficient for your use case.

Take a look at the Report Studio documentation here: <a data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

Hi Jesse

Thank you for your prompt response. I have downloaded the BIRT Report Studio documentation and it seems to be what I am looking for to construct my experiment with the students/participants but is there anyway of adding plugins to the Report Studio software (like the BIRT Report Designer) or is everything contained within the iHUB platform in which case developers are unable to add additional functionality? Can you advise?

Thanks

I do not believe Report Studio is not going to have the same extensibility as the designer for adding in additional plugins. Its design is a simpler interface for users to quickly create and modify simpler reports versus the full designer.

Is there something in particular you are looking for or would like to add?
