Dynamic creation of tables in BIRT

<p>Please help me with the dynamic table creation.</p>

<p>Please note that, this is a table creation and not modification of existing table.</p>

<p>I came across multiple question while trying this.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>1. Below 2 lines of code for fetching already created datasource did not work in my beforeFactory script.</p>
<p>As a workaround, I created a new datasource in the script with hardcoded values. (See full script below)</p>

<p>Can you please explain what you are trying to accomplish with the dynamic table creation? What is the use case? If we understand what you are trying to accomplish we can provide a solution instead of just trying to fix code snippets.</p>

<p>In my report, I have a datasource and dataset defined.</p>

<p>Dataset contains SQL and accepts 1 parameter</p>
<p>e.g.</p>
<p>Select * from employee where manager = ?</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I am receiving a list of string(Managers) as report parameter. (multi value select where you can select names of multiple managers).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Now I need to create a separate table for each of the manager displaying all employees under him.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Separate table because:</p>
<p>I need to create a tabbed report where a TAB is created for each of the manager and on the click of that TAB a corresponding manager's employee table is shown.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I have achieved dynamic TAB creation and now want to show or hide tables on the click of Tab.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>However I am not able to create a table dynamically.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>To summerize, I need to add tables to the report dynamically based on the list of string I receive. 1 Table for each string. Number of strings in list may varry.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Please assist.</p>

Thanks a lot. I will try this option. However, the scenario I explained was simplest form I could put my requirement. Actual SQL could be complex. If you could paste any example of dynamic table creation and data source creation that will be of a great help. Once I get back to work, I will try your option as well. However, request you to take a look at my initial script to point out what is wrong or provide me with working example of dynamic table.

<p>Below is some modifications to your original code which get past the errors you were seeing.</p>
<p>I'm not sure why the .findDataSource() wasn't working for you but both calls work, they just bring back different objects.</p>

<p>For the SQL, I have not tried to create a parameter binding thought the API, however modifying the query using the .setQueryText() doesn't seem to add any additional complexity.</p>
<p>Is there a reason that .setQueryText() wont work for you?</p>

<p>For the dynamic table I noticed that the number of columns,headers,details,footer rows were not defined.</p>
<p>This causes the table to not appear in the report design as it has no physical size.</p>
<p>I've added some dimensions to the .newTableItem() and a background color so we can see that the table is created and in the report design.</p>

<p>Some things to note are that the table will not display anything yet as it would need some data cells or labels placed in the table to display information.</p>
