Programming the data source using Java

<p>Hi,</p>

<p>I am working on a project to convert existing SAP Crystal Reports into BIRT Reports.</p>
<p>I have an XML data source which I want to program into a newly created BIRT Report with a table created accordingly. I need to format the table for the viewer too.</p>

<p>The easiest and simplest way to accomplish this is going to be through creating the report with the BIRT Designer.</p>

<p>You can use the Design Engine API (DEAPI) to create reports and add data sources, etc dynamically.</p>

<p>I just had to add the "only one" birt_runtime jar corresponding to my version of birt and remove all other random jars i had downloaded. :P</p>

<p>This code creates the report for only one particular static xml source.</p>
<p>How could I make it accept a dynamic xml datasource?</p>

<p>One option would be to create a report parameter that accepts the XML path and then that report parameter is passed to the data source.</p>

<p>Alternatively, you can use the OdaDataSourceHandle and OdaDataSetHandle to dynamically create a data source/set to meet your requirements.</p>
