BIRT Stops after Loading JDBC Driver
Veerendra

Hi,

We have been using BIRT and implemented the Viewer in Java.

On executing the Data Set Query for 1000 Rows Birt finishes within 295 ms.

But while for larger no of rows say 75000.. Birt stops responding. When checked with Log BIRT Log is stopped after

My Runtime Version is org.eclipse.birt.runtime_4.4.1.v20140916-1320

And Designer Version (using Eclipse) is 4.4.1.v201408290142 Build <4.4.1.v20140916-1320

BIRT Runtime has been implemented in Java and integrated into your web application deployed in Tomcat.

Tomcat Memory is 6 GB.

I am initiating Birt Engine once and using the same for other reports.

Below is the code snippet:

static IReportEngine engine = null;

if(engine != null){

return engine;

} else {

EngineConfig config = new EngineConfig();

config.setEngineHome( "\\WEB-INF" );

String folder = "/home/BIRT";

config.setLogConfig(folder+"/Logs", Level.FINE);

Platform.startup(config);

IReportEngineFactory factory = (IReportEngineFactory) Platform.createFactoryObject(IReportEngineFactory.EXTENSION_REPORT_ENGINE_FACTORY);

engine = factory.createReportEngine(config);

engine.changeLogLevel(Level.WARNING);

return engine;

}

If you run the same report in the BIRT designer, do you get the same performance issue?

Veerendra

No, There is no issue while running from the BIRT Designer.

I have given a fix which is working but don't know if that was reason for no response.

While generating for various Date Range, report was generated successfully all the time when the Query execution time was below 1 Sec. As soon as it crosses 1 Sec there was no response.

In the Mysql configuration file the variable long_query_time was set to 1 sec. So on wild guess changed this value to 10 secs. Now the reports are working fine.

But I need to know is there any connection between BIRT and MySQL Variable long_query_time.

Please let us know.

Thanks.

Veerendra

BIRT Designer was installed in My System.

The same report with same amount of data was working fine in the Ubuntu Testing Server where this long_query_time was not set. So this made me to think.

But dont know what is connection so kindly clarify.

One more question will BIRT Report generation depends on Operating System (as mentioned earlier Report was working fine in Ubuntu but the issue was in Red Hat) and is there any sample configuration with respect to Tomcat Memory and Temporary Disk space for caching and processing the data.

Thanks.

The operating system should be transparent to the BIRT report generation as it is all Java based.

What could vary between system is the JVM, JDBC drivers, etc.

Regarding the long_query_time, this will be dependent on the JDBC driver you are using and the database configuration. BIRT itself is not a direct factor in the communication.
